Marcela Díaz was born in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. She studied in Cholul, Yucatan and began her artistic career in 2005. Since then, she has exhibited in over 60 group and individual exhibitions in Mexico, Europe, United States and Latin America. And, although she is a diverse and multi-faceted artist who creates works with ceramics, bronze, wood, and glass fibers, it is her textile sculptures that she has focused and developed using traditional materials such as “henequen”, “cotton” and “coconut” fibers.
The art work of Díaz represents a contemporary proposal of the textile art of Yucatán in which the precision and dominance of hand weaving are joined, the projected spatial handling and the reflexive vision of the artist, who symbolically narrates the problem of her environment.”
